Teplice is a city with an abundant history, brimming with culture, entertainment, business, world-famous spas, parks, fountains, cafes, and popular restaurants. In fact it has often in the past been referred to as “Paris of the North.”
The city of Teplice is situated in the beautiful countryside between the Bohemian Middle and Iron Mountains close to the German border. Teplice offers the beauty of its natural surroundings and historical sights. The tranquillity of its parks, and interesting Empire- and Secession- styled buildings lend themselves the city’s atmosphere. The city boasts its famous sculpture in Chateau Square, the Plague Pillar, by Matyáš B. Braun, 1718, which also attracts many visitors.
The discovery of the hot remedial springs dates back to the year 762 making Teplice one of the oldest spas in Europe. Goethe, Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt spent time in Teplice to take advantage of its healing waters.
In 1990, the total renovation of the spa was completed and the facilities now offer a wide range of services at the highest level. The city is in the process of building new swimming facilities and new squash courts. It also recently refurbished the "Krušnohorské" Theatre.
Teplice is the seat of the North Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, which enriches cultural life year-round including outdoor concerts in the Spa Park during the summer season. The Cultural House, cinema, and summer cinema also offer fantastic entertainment opportunities.
