    • Numerous rehearsals with soloists accompanied by piano
    • Five days of rehearsals with the orchestra, providing each participant with a minimum of 120 minutes of podium time with the orchestra and the full North Bohemian Opera Ensemble
    • Fully staged opera performance shared among all active participants of the masterclass

    ABOUT

    The masterclass is designed for advanced conducting students and young professional conductors. Participants will have the opportunity to work with the opera ensemble of the North Bohemian Theatre of Opera and Ballet under the guidance of Maestro Norbert Baxa.

    The masterclass follows the structure of professional theatre rehearsals. The process begins with rehearsals with soloists accompanied by piano, and then progresses to full rehearsals with orchestra, chorus, and the entire ensemble. The highlight of the masterclass is a fully staged public performance conducted by the participants.

    SCHEDULE

    August 30 – September 6, 2026

    1. 17:00 – 21:00 ensemble rehearsal with soloists accompanied by piano
    2. 10:00 – 14:00 ensemble rehearsal with soloists accompanied by piano
    1. 9:30 – 12:30 rehearsal with orchestra
    2. 9:30 – 12:30 rehearsal with orchestra and soloists
    3. 9:30 – 12:30 rehearsal with orchestra, soloists and chorus
    4.  09:30 – 13:00  rehearsal with orchestra, soloists, chorus and ballet
    5.  09:30 – 13:00  dress rehearsal
    6. 17:00 fully staged public performance

    REQUIREMENTS

    Each candidate is required to complete the application form and indicate preferred opera acts, listed in order of preference. The final repertoire will be discussed individually after a successful application.

    APPLICATION

    Applicants must submit the completed form along with:

    • Proof of payment of the application fee (50 EUR)
    • A video recording (minimum length: 5 minutes) showing themselves conducting either a concert or opera. Both rehearsal and performance videos are accepted.

    DEADLINES

    • completed application form, video recording and payment confirmation of the application fee (50 EUR) must be received no later than April 30, 2026
    • candidates will be informed of admittance no later than May 5, 2026
    • deadline for payment of 50 percent of the tuition is  May 15, 2026
